On this excursion we will explore two of the oldest cities in Mexico, Puebla and Cholula, admire the volcanoes of Iztaccíhuatl and Popocatépetl and visit the largest pyramid in the world.

Description

  • After picking them up at the meeting point, we will head east of Mexico City. We will cross the mountains along the road that offers the most impressive views of the Iztaccíhuatl and Popocatépetl volcanoes.
  • Our first stop will be Cholula, the oldest living city in America. We will visit the archeological zone where the Great Pyramid of Cholula (Tlachihualtépetl) is erected, the largest pyramid in the world that is hidden under a huge mountain. Here, at the top of the pyramid, the church of Our Lady of Remedies is built. Before leaving Cholula we will approach the church of Santa María de Tonantzintla, an indigenous baroque temple where the indigenous and Christian traditions inherited from the Spaniards live together. It is considered the most colorful church in Mexico.
  • We will continue the tour until we reach Puebla, popularly known as “City of Angels”, since it is said that it was created by angels for the enjoyment of mortals. In Puebla they will have free time to have lunch and taste the gastronomic variety of the region. You cannot leave the city without trying the mole poblano, a specialty of Puebla and one of the most representative dishes of Mexico.
  • After lunch we will tour the historic center of Puebla to discover the monuments of Spanish colonial architecture that have earned it the title of World Heritage City. We will visit the essential places of Puebla: the Plaza de las Armas, the cathedral and the Church of Santo Domingo.
  • Before returning to Mexico City we will make a last stop at the handicraft market, where you can find beautiful pieces of Talavera poblana pottery.
